I found this cool website loonapix.com where you can upload photos and customize them with borders or however you want.  It was really cool to play around with and I had a lot of fun doing it.

This technology in Kinesiology class is really opening my eyes up to a variety of tools that I may be able to use in the classroom setting.  I am having a blast learning so far.  When I began I this class my social media experience was limited to Facebook.  I did not realize all of the other powerful tools that were out there.  Flickr is one that I have had a lot of fun with so far.  I have always enjoyed the viewing of photos on Facebook, but the problem is they are never all in one easy to find place and you can only look at images of your friends.  I have enjoyed flickr because I am finding photos of things from across the country and getting to see images that are interesting and fun to me.  I cannot wait to continue with flickr and find even more images that will continue to keep me entertained and informed with events that are going on across the country.

Living in New Mexico I have never experienced a hurricane.  As so many people are affected by Hurricane Sandy I pray for their safety.  I know here in little ol' Northwestern New Mexico this is the talk of the town.  There are so many people in the path of this terrible storm, and I just hope and pray for everyone to remain safe.  Those of you that have family and friends in the area my thoughts and prayers are with you. I found this image on Flickr and the link to this and more can be found at http://www.flickr.com/photos/gsfc/8134779156/.

I have never really realized the point in blogging.  Every time I read someone's blog I just viewed that post as someone attempting to get their personal message across or a place for someone to vent.  Until I began looking into blogging and other means of communication I had a difficult time wrapping my head around why someone would want to post their story for everyone in the world to see.  I am beginning to see how much of an impact blogging can have not only in bringing people together, but in collaboration in the educational community.

William and Jacobs (2004) stated "Students could put forth their ideas on topics after a little thought. The only other avenue available most of the time is in-class comments, for which you do not have much time to really think about them in detail. When new to a subject, the extra thought time that blogging provides can really help students sort through some of the issues in our own head, before providing them for all to see" (p. 241).  In this day in age of education collaboration is considered to be the best avenue to ensure that students learn.  School districts across the country are moving towards collaboration not only with teachers working together to achieve common goals, but also students working with each other to achieve the same goals.  The reality is in the classroom students may not have the time to share ideas and work together, but with blogging the chance is always present.  Students that may be struggling with topics will be able to receive help with blogging or study groups can be more easily available as students can share ideas and thoughts on various topics regarding the class.

Blogging in the classroom would be extremely beneficial to the students.  Students appear to be more comfortable learning in online situations (Williams and Jacobs, 2004).  If students feel more comfortable meeting in online type classroom they are more likely to learn.  This gives students another means of learning information that may not be there if information is just coming from an instructor.  In my experience there are many students who appear to learn better from their peers.  When learning from their peers students are much more comfortable in the environment and do fear giving wrong answers to their instructors.  As the classroom continue to evolve there appears to be a tend to more online or distance learning.  Blogging gives students the opportunity to not only collaborate with students in their classrooms, but also with students learning the same topic across the world.

This whole microblogging thing has really caught me by surprise.  When I was in high school we did not even have text messaging, now they don't text... they don't tweet, facebook, or myspace.  Just last night I was awaiting news about my girls soccer team and instead of texting or calling me my coaches and a few players just added me to a tweet on twitter and a status update on facebook.  I guess I really need to get with the times, but to be honest I just do not have the time to do all of this.  It is crazy how these website have taken over the way that send and receive news.  It is time to ge

This whole Twitter thing really has me confused.  I have used Facebook since I was in college and I get it.  I use to reconnect with people from high school and even relatives that live across the country.  Then this Twitter thing came around.  I really never saw the point in it.  I thought it is the exact same thing as Facebook.  About two months ago I began noticing more and more that my students were talking about Twitter.  I became curious.  I signed up for an account and I have played around with it some.  Once I figured out exactly what a tweet was I began to find some use out of it.  I did not have to sift through tons of people status updates to find out what was going on.  I found that I was able to get information quick and I have actually began enjoying Twitter much more than facebook.  Once I figure it out a little more I think I will be hooked.  I just hope I am not as into it as my some of my students that cannot walk and tweet at the same time.
